Two Ways LGOs are Helping Support India COVID-19 Efforts

Leading Fundraising Efforts Across Business Schools

India is in the throes of a grave crisis. Hospitals and healthcare workers are overwhelmed, patients are gasping for air, and funeral pyres have blackened our skies. The recent surge is having devastating impact on livelihoods and wellbeing of millions across the country. Our spirit to overcome this challenge, nonetheless, stands strong. Kunal Sanghani, LGO 22 and the co-president of the South Asia Business Club, partnered with other business schools and GiveIndia, an NGO, to create a fund (link below) to protect healthcare workers across India and provide life-saving supplies and essentials at COVID hospitals and care centers. Please consider donating to this fund as your help will save 100s of lives across the Indian subcontinent.

How will the funds be used?

Finding Technical Solutions

Paige Wyler, LGO ’22, has been working with Project Prana, a registered 503(c)  organization that has industrialized a ventilator expansion technology that can imminently double respiratory care capacities at hospitals, which are currently experiencing severe shortages. Their team comprises researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in collaboration with Harvard Medical School and Philips Healthcare. They developed the iSAVE (Individualized System for Augmenting Ventilator Efficacy);  this ~$500 device multiplexes a ventilator to two patients, can customize treatment to each patient, and has digital monitoring capabilities to reduce operational burden and increase safety.

Through Project Prana, 501(c)(3), they are raising funds to support our ability to deploy our technology to support hospitals in India struggling with access to solutions. They are in conversation with the government to receive expedited approval. They have an initial order for 100+ units in Chennai and have a pipeline of hospitals across India interested in ordering the device for their centers. They are seeking financial support, approximately $250,000, to cover the initial manufacturing & deployment and technical support associated with the first 100 iSAVE units.
