About the Program
The MIT Pre-LGO Pipeline Program is designed to prepare high-potential STEM graduates to become strong future applicants to the MIT Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) program.
Through a multi-year experience that combines live online seminars, leadership development workshops, individual coaching, and alumni mentorship, participants deepen their understanding of LGO while building the professional skills and experiences that will support their future academic and career goals.
Who Can Apply
This program is open to:
- College and university seniors graduating with a STEM degree
- Recent STEM graduates with one to two years of relevant work experience who would benefit from additional professional experience before applying to LGO
Program Experience
While participants continue building their work experience, they will engage in live, online seminars each year for up to three years. The seminar series is designed to introduce students to MIT Leaders for Global Operations while also supporting their growth as future leaders.
The program includes two core components:
- About LGO seminars (30–45 minutes)
- Self-Development and Leadership workshops (3 hours)
Together, these sessions help participants better understand the program, its community, and its long-term career value while also developing the leadership, communication, and self-awareness skills needed to succeed in complex organizations.
Pre-LGO Pipeline Program Seminars
The Pre-LGO Pipeline Program Seminar Series introduces students to MIT Leaders for Global Operations through a sequence of seminars delivered over three years. The series includes both 30–45 minute sessions about LGO and 3-hour workshops focused on self-development and leadership.
About LGO Seminars
First Year
Participants begin by exploring LGO’s mission, vision, and values in the fall, followed by sessions on program culture and structure in the spring.
Second Year
The second year highlights LGO’s connections to industry, with a fall seminar on partner companies and internships and a spring seminar focused on industry operations.
Third Year
In the final year, participants turn toward future opportunities through seminars on accelerating their careers and connecting with the LGO alumni network.
Self-Development and Leadership Workshops
First Year
First-year workshops focus on understanding yourself and others, including tools such as Myers-Briggs, Gallup Strengths, and DiSC. In the spring, participants explore individual cultures, company cultures, and organizational structures.
Second Year
Second-year workshops emphasize effectiveness in organizations. Fall sessions focus on organizational skills, including work style and brain type. Spring workshops center on leading effective work teams, with topics such as team player style, conflict management style, and decision-making on teams.
Third Year
Third-year workshops focus on communication and leadership. In the fall, participants build skills in communication, listening, and giving and receiving feedback. In the spring, they focus on effective leadership, situational leadership, and stepping into their role as a leader.
Coaching and Mentoring
Participants benefit from four touchpoints annually designed to support their growth throughout the Pre-LGO Pipeline Program.
- Individual coaching is integrated as a follow-up to each seminar in the fall and spring, helping participants reflect on what they’ve learned and apply it to their academic and professional development.
- LGO alumni mentoring is provided in the winter and summer, giving each participant ongoing guidance, perspective, and support from an experienced member of the LGO community.
Together, these coaching and mentoring touchpoints help participants strengthen self-awareness, navigate professional decisions, and build meaningful connections with the LGO network over time.
