The LGO application deadline is December 15, 2013. All applications must be submitted online either through the MIT Sloan School or Management or through one of seven participating engineering departments within the MIT School of Engineering. The applications have different requirements, which are summarized below, but the LGO review process is the same for all applications.

Please prepare a cover letter (up to 500 words) seeking a place in the MIT Sloan MBA program and LGO program. Your letter should describe your accomplishments, address any extenuating circumstances that may apply to your application, and conform to standard business correspondence. Your letter should be addressed to Mr. Rod Garcia, Senior Director of Admissions.
For those applying to LGO through an engineering department, please give your reasons for wishing to do graduate work in the field you have chosen. Prepare your statement of objectives and goals in whatever form clearly presents your views. Include as far as you can, your particular interests, and show how your background and MIT's programs support these interests. Explain your longer-term professional goals. The Admissions Committee will welcome any factors you wish to bring to its attention concerning your academic and work experience to date.
LGO requires a comprehensive record of your academic history. Both degree-based and per-credit coursework should be documented. Transcripts in languages other than English should be accompanied by an official or notarized translation.
If you're applying to LGO through the School of Engineering, you should check with your engineering department about whether they require you to mail-in hard copy versions of your transcript(s). If they do not require them to be sent in hard copy, you may just scan and upload them into the online application system.

If you're applying through the MIT Sloan School of Management, please scan and upload copies of your academic records. Do not mail in your official academic records or transcripts. Applicants invited to interview will be required to provide an official transcript from each school attended.
Prepare a business résumé (as opposed to an academic c.v.) that includes employment history in reverse chronological order, with titles and dates, and whether the work was part-time or full-time. As part of this résumé, also include a similar education history that includes dates and degrees, listed in reverse chronological order. The résumé should not exceed one page in length.
The essays are a chance for candidates to discuss passions, values, interests, and goals. Emphasize those experiences that were most important and meaningful for you. Be sincere and be specific. There is no one "right" kind of student; in fact, LGO deliberately builds each class to include a variety of strengths and perspectives. Tell us what particular experiences and expertise you will bring to the mix. We are interested in learning about how each candidate works, thinks, and behaves.

The Admissions Committee invites you to share anything else you would like us or your future classmates to know about you. This may be in written or multimedia format. Please do not use Flash Media Player, and include a URL where it can be accessed online. Written essays should be 300 words or fewer.
Three letters of recommendation are required of all applicants. Please choose a recommender who is able to provide specific answers to each of the following questions:
Your technical/academic letter(s) of recommendation should come from a professional or academic source, such as from a supervisor or professor who can speak to your technical abilities. A good technical recommendation might include information about analytic skills, thoroughness, technical expertise and depth and how they are demonstrated, creativity and problem solving skills.
The technical letter should be able to assess an applicant's ability to look deeply into a technical or engineering problem.
One of the recommendations should be from an academic source or someone who can speak definitively about your technical skills. This technical or academic letter can either utilize the questions above or be free form. The other two recommendations should directly answer each of the questions above. Recommendations should not exceed two pages each. Recommenders must submit recommendations online.

The GMAT or GRE is required of all LGO applicants and must be taken before submitting your application. Once your online application is submitted, we will not allow replacement of your test scores. Applicants through MIT Sloan School of Management are required to take the GMAT or the GRE. LGO candidates applying through the School of Engineering are required to take the GRE. Test scores are valid for up to five years.
The MIT Sloan School of Management does not require the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), although most engineering departments require it for students whose native language is not English. If your department of entry requires the TOEFL or IELTS, you must submit current scores prior to the admissions deadline for your application to be considered complete.

Interviews of applicants for the Class of 2016 will be conducted by invitation only. Interview invitations will be extended beginning in January and extend through March 2014. LGO will send admissions decisions by February 28, 2014.
